Business Administration / Hospitality

The Hospitality Management Curriculum prepares individuals to understand and apply the administrative and practical skills needed for supervisory and managerial positions in hotels, motels, resorts, inns, restaurants, institutions, and clubs.

Course work includes guest services, leadership, management, restaurant operations, lodging operations, marketing, sanitation, food preparation, food and beverage management and other critical areas.

Graduates should qualify for management or entry-level supervisory positions in food and lodging operations, including restaurants, foodservice, beverage service, catering, front office, reservations and housekeeping. Opportunities are also available in product services, and technology support and sales.

Because the use of computers is integral to this curriculum, some courses are delivered in an online format.

 

Unique Aspects

The Pinehurst area of North Carolina provides unique employment opportunities for Hospitality Management graduates.

In the radius of just a few miles, many world-class golf resorts can be found. Current students and program graduates can be found employed at the Pinehurst Resort, Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, Mid-Pines Inn and Golf Club, and Little River Golf and Resort just to name a few.

Many world-class golf tournaments are held in the area. Some of these include the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Opens, North & South Amateur Championships, Intercollegiate Golf Tournaments, U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championship, U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, and the Donald Ross Junior Championship. Tourists and local residents tend to patronize the area hotels and restaurants during such events.

The year-round mild climate of the area allows for many outdoor activities such as equestrian events, tennis, hunting, fishing, hiking, cycling, watersports and more. This, along with the renowned golf appeal, has created the need for many hotels and restaurants which provide employment opportunities for our graduates.

 

Special Requirements

A cooperative work experience is a portion of the curriculum. Students are responsible for travel.

 

Estimated Program Expenses

*Program credit hours: 68 – $76.00 per credit hour in-state tuition, $268.00 per credit hour out-of-state tuition.
