Emergency Preparedness Overview

Emergencies can happen quickly and without warning. When they do, taking immediate action and following established procedures can make the biggest difference in keeping yourself and others safe. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors should always follow the instructions of college officials and emergency responders.

Preparing for potential situations is a shared responsibility across the campus community. This page provides an overview of how Sandhills Community College promotes readiness, supports emergency response, and communicates during critical incidents. Detailed procedures for specific situations—such as severe weather, active threats, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials—are provided on the Emergency Procedures page and related Safety & Security resources.

If anyone is in danger or needs urgent medical attention, call 911 right away. Then contact Campus Security at (910) 695-3911 so they can respond on-site and guide emergency personnel to your location. Stay alert to messages from the SCC Alert emergency notification system, which provides timely instructions during severe weather, security events, and other disruptions.

Please note that SCC’s emergency guidelines are intended to support awareness and preparedness but do not replace personal readiness, situational awareness, or specialized emergency training. Conditions can change rapidly, and individuals should always use good judgment and adapt to evolving circumstances.
