Support for Pregnancy and Related Conditions

You Have Rights. We Provide Support.
Sandhills Community College is committed to supporting pregnant students, non-birthing parents, and students experiencing pregnancy-related conditions. We ensure equal access to educational programs and activities through reasonable modifications, academic adjustments, and supportive services that help you stay on track and succeed.
This is a student-led process. To receive assistance, a student must disclose their pregnancy or related condition to a college official, such as the Title IX Coordinator, a faculty member, or an academic advisor.
Understanding Title IX
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination in educational institutions based on sex — including discrimination related to pregnancy and related conditions.
Title IX protections apply to students who are:
-
Pregnant
-
Experiencing post-birth medical conditions
-
Recovering from pregnancy-related medical issues
-
Non-birthing parents affected by childbirth, adoption, false pregnancy, or pregnancy termination

Connecting students with campus support services and resources
-
Assisting with communication between students and faculty
-

Reasonable Modifications
Modifications are individualized based on a student’s specific needs. Not all adjustments apply in every situation.
Students may request:
- Campus Modifications and Support
- Academic Modifications
Lactation & Respite Spaces
Private spaces are available for lactation or respite needs. Each space provides a clean, secure, and comfortable environment.
No scheduling required.
Extended Conditions and Accommodations
Students experiencing ongoing medical conditions related to pregnancy that substantially
limit a major life activity may be eligible for accommodations under the Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Students are encouraged to contact the Title IX Coordinator or the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator
to discuss available support.
