Health Information Technology
The Health Information Technology Curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information. This is a partner program with Pitt Community College.Begin Your Journey
- Receive hands-on instruction in monitoring standards, facilitating research, and designing system controls to monitor patient information security.
- Gain experience supervising departmental functions and coordinating information for cost control, quality management, statistics, marketing, and planning.
- Prepare to write the national certification examination to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Health information technology is an in-demand skill. Graduates are qualified for entry-level positions at hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, health insurance organizations, outpatient clinics, physicians offices, hospice sites, and mental health facilities. Pitt Community College/Sandhills Community College Partner Program
Pitt Community College (PCC) has entered into a unique learning partnership with Sandhills Community College to provide Sandhills students the opportunity to complete up to 39 credit hours at Sandhills to be used toward completion of the 74-hour Associate in Applied Science in the Pitt Community College Heath Information Technology program.
Students accepted into this program can explore two options:
- Complete the 39 hours of general requirements prior to 1. application to the program, or
- Complete some or all of those courses at Sandhills while 2. concurrently enrolled in the Pitt program online.
