Gain the skills you need to succeed in this digital world. Sandhills Community College Workforce Continuing Education Department will offer four computer courses in March. Learn to navigate Windows, Excel, or Google Drive like a pro, or expand your computer skills in Computer Basics 2.

Windows

"Windows 10-Level 2" will enhance your Windows 10 skills. Discover how to use the Action Center and the All Settings screen, how to customize your Desktop, set up and use virtual desktops, create folders for basic file management, and how to use File Explorer. A brief introduction to email and the Windows Store will be covered, as well as how to update Windows 10 and keep it safe. The prerequisite for this course is Windows 10 Level 1 or prior experience. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 14-April 25, from 6–8 pm, this class will cost $75. 

"Excel: Spreadsheets, Charts, and Graphs" will focus on the fundamentals of Excel 2019. You will first learn how to create fully formatted worksheets quickly and efficiently. You will then learn common formulas and functions, sorting and analyzing data, custom charts and graphs, and how to create three-dimensional workbooks. This course also introduces you to Quick Analysis, Flash Fill, and other powerful charting tools, which are further explored in the intermediate course. Held Mondays and Wednesdays, March 13-April 24, from 6–8 pm, this class will cost $75. 

Google

In "Getting Started with Google Drive," students will get a basic introduction to Google Drive as a file management resource, which will allow you access to your files anytime you have Internet access. Learn to use Google's simple, flexible file and document sharing features. Become familiar with Google's excellent suite of office software, including Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Drawings, and Google Forms. Held Fridays, March 17-April 21, from 2–4 pm, this class will cost $75. 

Computer Basics

"Computer Basics 2" will build on what you learned in Computer Basics 1 to gain an even deeper understanding of computer hardware, software, using the internet, and more! Held Thursdays, March 16-April 20, from 9–11 am, this class will cost $75. The prerequisite for this course is Computer Basics 1 or prior experience. 

Registration

Seats are still available for these Continuing Education classes and do not require an application. To register, call Continuing Education at (910) 695-3980 between 8 am and 5 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 8 am-Noon on Fridays. All major credit cards are accepted. Pre-register at sandhills.edu/wce/cereg.html. Pre-registration must be made two days before the start date of the class.

Upcoming Semester

The next semester for curriculum/college credit classes begins on March 13. Offered online and in hybrid class formats, classes take only eight weeks to complete and award full credits. For all information, go to www.sandhills.edu/eight.

Boys & Girls Club

Sandhills is now the location of a new Boys & Girls Club. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. Transportation is provided from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.

In addition, there is a drop-in Club from 6–9 pm for children of parents/guardians taking evening classes or needing to meet for group projects or other academic reasons. CCP Classes for High School Students

Moore and Hoke County High School students can take classes at SCC as juniors and seniors. Those completing the required number of CCP credits qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
