Starting this August, Sandhills Community College's Workforce Continuing Education division will begin classes to expedite your career. Discover the construction management world or dive into electrical work, HVAC systems, plumbing, or welding. These valuable skills will unlock a world of possibilities.
Construction
"Construction Project Management" provides students with the skills necessary to work as a construction supervisor or job foreman. Management skills in people and problem solving, planning, estimating, safety supervision, scheduling, controlling costs, and resources will be taught. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 22-December 12, from 6–9 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the textbook. There will be no class on November 23.
In "Construction Training – Build a Tiny Home," students will learn the basics of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC by partnering with Habitat for Humanity and building a Tiny Home. Students will learn the skills to enter the trades workforce or continue their education with a trade-specific class. Held Thursdays and Fridays, August 17-December 1, from 8 am–2:30 pm, this class will cost $187.50. There will be no classes on September 1, November 23, and 24.
In "Forklift Operator," students will earn the National Safety Council's (NSC) lift truck operator certification by successfully completing this class. The minimum age is 18. Held Friday, August 11, from 8:30 am-4 pm and Saturday, August 12, from 8 am-noon, this class will cost $77.50 plus the cost of the textbook.
"General Contractors Update & CE Classes" provides General Contractors the necessary 8 hours of Continuing Education required to renew their licenses each year. Held Saturday, August 26, from 8 am–5 pm, this class will cost $110.
Trades
In "Electrical Level I," students will earn an industry-recognized NCCER Electrical credential. Level 1 introduces trainees to the electrical trade, safety, circuits, National Electrical Code, device boxes, hand bending, raceways, and fittings, conductors and cables, electrical construction drawings, residential electrical services, and test equipment. The prerequisite/co-requisite for this course is "NCCER Core." Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 8-April 4, from 6–9 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the textbook.
"NCCER Core + OSHA 10" will include basic safety, communication skills, and an introduction to construction drawings. Students earn NCCER Core and OSHA 10 certifications. This course is a prerequisite/co-requisite to Level 1 Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding classes. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 21-January 16, from 6–9:30 pm, this class will cost $243.50 plus the cost of the textbook.
In "HVAC Level I," students will learn trade mathematics, basic electricity, introduction to heating and cooling, introduction to air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, and basic carbon steel piping practices. The prerequisite/co-requisite for this course is "NCCER Core." Held Mondays and Wednesdays, August 14-December 13, from 6–9:30 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the textbook. There will be no classes on September 4 and November 22. An additional course will be held Monday-Friday, August 28-January 19, from 8-9:30 am. This class will follow the Moore County Schools schedule.
"HVAC Level II" covers the following: alternating current, compressors, refrigerants and oils, leak detection evacuation recovery and charging, metering devices, heat pumps, basic maintenance, chimneys vents and flues, sheet metal duct systems, fiberglass and fabric duct systems, commercial airside systems, air quality equipment, and introduction to hydronic systems. Scholarships are available for this class. The prerequisite for this course is "HVAC Level I." Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 1-December 14, from 6–10 pm. This class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the textbook. There will be no classes on August 10 and 15, September 7, and November 21 and 23.
"Plumbing Level I" will introduce you to the plumbing profession, plumbing safety, tools of the plumbing trade, plumbing math, plumbing drawings, plastic pipe and fittings, copper pipe and fittings, cast-iron pipe and fittings, steel pipe and fittings, plumbing fixtures, introduction to drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems, and introduction to water distribution systems. The prerequisite/co-requisite for this course is "NCCER Core." Held Mondays and Wednesdays, August 14-December 13, from 6–9:30 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the textbook. There will be no classes on September 4 and November 22.
In "Welding Level I" students will earn an industry-recognized NCCER Welding credential. Level I introduces trainees to the mastery of basic welding skills and techniques, including safety, metal cutting and fitting, and welding skills using generally recognized industry processes. The prerequisite/co-requisite for this course is "NCCER Core." Held Mondays and Wednesdays, August 14-May 8, from 6–9 pm, this class will cost $311.50 plus the cost of the textbook.

Seats are still available for these Workforce Continuing Education classes and do not require an application. Fall Semester
A fall semester flightPath has been published on the Sandhills Community College website (www.sandhills.edu/flightpath). It contains information about all curriculum programs and Workforce Continuing Education classes set to begin in August through December.
Curriculum classes will begin on August 14. In addition to the traditional 16-week semester, there will be two eight-week sessions, one beginning on August 14 and the second on October 11. Boys & Girls Club
A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the Sandhills campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.
In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to Sandhills students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons. Classes for High School Students
Moore and Hoke County High School students can take SCC classes as juniors and seniors at no cost. High school counselors can help schedule these classes, or home or private school students can contact Kim McMillan at mcmillank@sandhills.edu.
Students who reside in Moore and Hoke Counties and successfully complete the required number of classes through Sandhills while in high school can qualify to receive two full years of paid tuition through our Sandhills Promise program. Sandhills awards over $350,000 to pay tuition and fees for Sandhills Promise students each year. The Sandhills Promise applications are due each year by mid-July.
