Keep up with the ever-evolving, ever-changing world of technology. Sandhills Community College Continuing Education Technology classes are a great way to have fun and make new friends while learning how to use computers and computer software.
Explore 3D printing. Create 3D image files using the TinkerCAD 3D design and printing app. After file creation, students print their objects during the two Saturday classes. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the history, terminology, and types of 3D Printing technology and demonstrate an ability to create and print a simple project.
“Introduction to 3D Printing” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 3 from 6-8 p.m., and Saturdays, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 from 8 a.m.-noon. The cost is $75.
Students will learn a little of everything that Microsoft Office offers including sessions on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher and One Note in “Microsoft Office Overview.” This class will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 5-Nov. 21 from noon-2 p.m. The cost is $75.
Windows Operating System
In “Windows 10-Level 1” students will master the Windows 10 operating system. Discover Windows applications, terminology, and Start Menu functions as well as operational basics. Students should have access to the Windows 10 operating system. This class will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, Sept. 5-Oct. 14 from 9-11 a.m. Another class will be offered on Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Nov. 26 from 6-8 p.m.The cost is $75 plus the cost of text and a flash drive.
Students will maximize their productivity using many of the applications found on their iPad in “iPad Basics.” Learn about Contacts, Mail, Messages, Calendar, Camera, as well as Notes, Reminders, Safari, and others. Downloading and installing apps from the App Store is also included. Students must bring their iPad or iPhone to class with the latest operating system (iOS) installed.
“iPad Basics” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 4-Oct. 14 from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $75.
Email and Internet
Students will get a more in-depth look at all Gmail has to offer as well as learning about the other applications that Google provides in “Gmail and Google.” Even make face to face connections using Google Hangouts. Many other Google Apps are included also.
“Gmail and Google” will be held on Fridays, Sept. 6-Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $75.
Students will learn the latest methods to protect yourself from identity theft, hackers, viruses and scams in “Internet Safely.” This course is designed to inform and raise awareness of safety and security issues using the internet and online applications.
“Internet Safely” will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 29 from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $75.
Students will learn how to get connected with family and friends using your smartphone or tablet in “Helpful Apps for your Smartphone and Tablet.” Students will be taught the apps to enrich your life and become more technologically savvy.
“Helpful Apps for your Smartphone and Tablet” will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 29 from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $75.
Students will take their photography from good to great in “Digital Photography Fundamentals.” Students will learn camera controls and how to put a little of themselves into each photo. Classes will be lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and discussions. Students will be encouraged to share their work with the whole class.
“Digital Photography Fundamentals” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10-Oct 17 from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $75.
IT Credentials and Cyber Security
“CompTIA A+” is the preferred performance-based qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. A+ certified professionals identify issues and problem solve more effectively than those without certification. It is trusted by employers around the world to identify the go-to person in end-point management & technical support roles.
“CompTIA A+” will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 9-Nov. 21 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185.
