Technology Classes to Begin at SCC in January

Start off the new decade with a new skill. Sandhills Community College Continuing Education Technology classes are a great way to have fun and make new friends while learning how to use computers and computer software.

Microsoft Office

Students will learn a little of everything that Microsoft Office offers including sessions on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher and One Note in “Microsoft Office Overview.” This class will be held on Thursdays, Jan. 16-April 2 from noon-2 p.m. The cost is $75.

Students will learn how to maximize their efficiency by learning about the apps that are included in their o365 subscription. In this 6-week class, students will be introduced to Outlook calendar, SharePoint, One Drive, Teams, Microsoft Forms, and Whiteboard. “Microsoft o365 Business Apps Overview” will be held on Tuesdays, Jan. 28-March 3 with three class times: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 2-3:30 p.m., and 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

Windows Operating System

Students will master the Windows 10 operating system in “Windows 10 – Level 1.” Students will discover Windows applications, terminology, and Start Menu functions as well as operational basics. Students should have access to the Windows 10 operating system.

“Windows 10 – Level 1” will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, 9-11 a.m. from Jan. 13-Feb. 24. The cost is $75 plus the cost of a flash drive.

Apple Macintosh Operating System and iPad

Students will maximize productivity using many of the applications found on their iPad in “iPad Basics.” They’ll learn about Contacts, Mail, Messages, Calendar, Camera, as well as Notes, Reminders, Safari, and others. Downloading and installing apps from the App Store is also included. Students must bring their iPad to class with the latest operating system (iOS) installed.

“iPad Basics” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 13-Feb. 24 from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Photography and Videography

Students will take their photography from good to great in “Digital Photography Fundamentals.” Classes will be lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and discussions. Students will be encouraged to share their work with the whole class. This class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 21-Feb. 27 from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $75.

Students will uncover how Elements 19 can help create catalogs and albums, import and organize photos, and perform basic editing in “Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 19 for Beginners.” Students will learn how to use the Editor’s Quick and Guided modes. Time permitting, students will also learn the basics of using layers for combining and correcting photos and adding text and graphics. A flash drive 8GB or larger is recommended. The prerequisite for this class is are a good working knowledge of computers, using a mouse or pen tablet, and file management.

“Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 19 for Beginners” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 13-Feb. 24 from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

IT Credentials and Cyber Security

“CompTIA Network+” helps develop a career in IT infrastructure covering troubleshooting, configuring, and managing networks. Students will learn to design and implement functional networks; configure, manage, and maintain essential network devices; implement network security, standards, and protocols; troubleshoot network problems, and support the creation of virtualized networks.

“CompTIA Network+” will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays will be held Jan. 6-March 19 from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays are seated classes, while Mondays and Thursdays are online. The cost is $185 plus the cost of $129 for software.

Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
