SCC Technology Classes to Begin in March

Sandhills Community College Continuing Education Technology classes are a great way to have fun, make new friends while learning how to use computers and computer software.

3D Printing

“Introduction to 3D Printing” is for those new to 3D printing. We will create 3D image files using the TinkerCAD 3D design and printing app.  After file creation, we will print our objects.  Participants will attend 2 Saturday classes to print their 3D objects. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the history, terminology, and types of 3D Printing technology as well as demonstrate an ability to create and print a simple project.

“Introduction to 3D Printing” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 12-April 4 from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, April 6 and 13 from 8 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.

Microsoft Office

In “Word Tips and Tricks” learn to work smarter in this information-packed seminar! You will see shortcuts that increase productivity and tips that will help you move more quickly through projects. During this one-day seminar, Word users at all skill levels can pick up new and useful ways to improve their personal word processing

“Word Tips and Tricks” will be held on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.

“Excel Tips & Tricks” will give you techniques that are guaranteed to increase your productivity with Microsoft Excel. Participants will cover Excel’s formulas and functions with advanced instruction on the most useful methods for automating reports. The seminar will impart shortcuts and tips for preparing outstanding presentations using Excel charts. Also, participants will be able to see how to use Excel macros to automate spreadsheet work. The best thing about this seminar is that it is taught in layman’s terms – not “geek-speak.”

“Excel Tips & Tricks” will be held on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.

People respond better to visual displays of data.  In Microsoft Excel, charts and graphs are two ways to create those visuals.  “Excel Charts and Graphs” will examine charts and graphs in an in-depth manner.  Become a chart and graph guru – and be the popular kid on the block!

“Excel Charts and Graphs” will be held on Thursday, March 28 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.

Advances in technology have made it possible to store ever-increasing amounts of data. Along with this, the need to analyze that data and gain actionable insight is greater than ever. You already have experience working with Excel and creating basic PivotTables to summarize data, but Excel is capable of doing so much more. Being able to harness the power of advanced PivotTable features and create Pivot Charts will help you to gain a competitive edge in “Excel Pivot Tables.” You will not only be able to summarize data to analyze, but also organize the data in a way that can be meaningfully presented to others, leading to data-driven business decisions that have a better chance for success for everyone involved.

“Excel Pivot Tables” will be held on Thursday, March 28 from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $75.

Computer Operating System

Enhance your Windows 10 skills in “Windows 10 Level 2.” Discover how to use the Action Center and the all Settings screen, how to customize your Desktop, set up, and use virtual desktops, creating folders for basic file management, and how to use File Explorer. A brief introduction to email and the Windows Store will be covered, as well as how to update Windows 10 and keep it safe. Prerequisite: Windows 10 Level 1 or prior experience.

“Windows 10 Level 2” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 18-April 25 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $75.

 Make your computer a more productive tool in “OS Mojave Level 2 – Using Apps.” Briefly review the use of the operating system and Finder. Delve into the use of many applications found on the Apple Macintosh computer.

“OS Mojave Level 2 – Using Apps” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 18-April 24 from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Social Media

In today’s more complicated sales environment, we have to be able to identify and connect with bridge-builders to move our sales process forward.  In “Gaining More Clients Using LinkedIn and Twitter” you will learn to find clients, create valuable relationships, and establish a win-win environment using your LinkedIn and Twitter connections.

“Gaining More Clients Using LinkedIn and Twitter” will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.

In “Social Selling with LinkedIn and Twitter” learn how social selling is the technique of using social networks and associated tools to brand, prospect, generate leads, and create/nurture business relationships. As social selling is adopted by more industries, LinkedIn will become the best entry point and resource for seasoned sales professionals in a business-to-business sales environment. New research suggests that 67%of a buyer’s journey now involves digital content and processes, while 97%of the money being spent on cold-calling customers is being wasted. The adoption of social selling by sales professionals helps them adapt to this change in buyer’s behavior.

“Social Selling with LinkedIn and Twitter” will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $75.

Photo Editing

In “Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 15 Advanced” bring out the artist in yourself as you learn about editing in Raw, using the Guided and Expert mode in Editor, including different types of layers and blends to correct or combine two or more photos, as well as creating a type mask and montages. Learn to frame photos, create twirl effects, push a photo through text, add texture, and make a photo look like a painting. A flash drive 8GB or larger is recommended. The prerequisites for this class is Elements 15 Part 1, or prior experience, and a good working knowledge of computers, using a mouse or pen tablet, file management, and a creative mind.

“Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 15 Advanced” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 18-April 24 from 1-3 p.m.

Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until noon.
