Education and training go far to help a person get an interview, but it’s soft skills that land the job and help one keep it. A lack of critical communication and problem-solving abilities, poor work ethics, inadequate self-management and poor self-awareness can be a tremendous barrier to success.
To help job-seekers overcome such barriers and better develop crucial soft skills, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Workforce Development Partners developed the Working Smart Soft Skills for Workplace Success curriculum. It addresses not only the needs of such individuals but also those of employers who desire hires be well-trained and possess skills that enhance productivity.
Working Smart has proven successful in Mecklenburg County and has expanded to other counties throughout North Carolina. It is now being made available in Hoke County through the Sandhills Hoke Center.
Certified Working Smart instructor, Kathy Kennedy says, “In my 45 years of career training, this curriculum is one of the most useful and informative training programs in which I have participated. I am anxious to share Working Smart.”
“This program offers critical, work related interpersonal skills for those who currently seek employment in NC,” said Kennedy. “It is a great opportunity for participants to improve their probability of success in the NC workforce.”
Sandhills Community College Continuing Education will offer Working Smart May 8-11 from 9 am-3 pm at the NCWorks Career Center at 245 Shepherd Trail in Aberdeen. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.
Participants will not only learn effective work skills but practical life skills that will allow them to stand out from the crowd, secure a competitive edge when seeking a job and enhance productivity and the chance of job promotion and career advancement.More Posts
