Public Safety Summer Courses at SCC

Whether you are a student seeking a career as a firefighter or a seasoned veteran needing your annual recertification’s, the Public Safety Department has ongoing course offerings to meet your needs. The following classes are enrolling for summer 2018.
“EMT-Basic” will teach you entry-level training in emergency response through hands-on training and clinical experience. Through this course, you will develop the skills needed to provide emergency care for the sick and injured. You will learn to respond to a variety of emergency medical situations, and upon successful completion, you can sit for the state certification exam. A high school diploma or high school equivalency is required for enrollment.
“EMT-Basic” will be held at the Pinehurst Campus on Mondays and Tuesdays, Aug. 20-Dec. 12 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $180 plus a $5 tech fee.
An additional “EMT-Basic” course will be held at the Caddell Public Safety Training Center on Thursdays and Fridays, July 19-Nov. 20 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The cost is $180 plus a $5 tech fee.
Fire Academy
The SCC Fire Academy will begin July 11. This is a full-time program with classes held Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost of the academy ranges from $75 – $185, plus a $180 uniform fee and $2.50 for insurance. Current volunteer firefighters may be eligible for a fee waiver based on their membership with a local, city, county, or state fire department.

Register in the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall on the Pinehurst campus at 3395 Airport Road. Registration by phone with a credit card can be made by calling (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
