3.4.1 Application for Advancement

Revised: November 1, 2014; October 1, 2017; March 15, 2019; October 1, 2022

Moving from rank of Instructor to Associate Professor occurs upon completion of three years of fulltime service as faculty and with approval of the Vice President of Instruction, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs & Institutional Planning, and the College President.  The advancement in rank occurs on July 1 to coincide with the contract year and a $1,000 advancement increase, subject to availability of funds, will be awarded.

Moving from rank of Associate Professor to that of a Full Professor requires that the faculty member complete an additional seven years of full-time, post-secondary teaching experience after completing the new faculty mentorship period. A faculty member may combine a minimum of three years of full-time teaching at SCC with years of teaching full time at another institution one year after becoming an Associate Professor. Additionally, adjunct teaching experience may be used to meet the experience requirement by equating 33 semester contact hours to one year of teaching experience. In certain extraordinary cases or in cases where faculty members have significant experience, the rank of professor may be awarded earlier in the faculty member’s service at the College.

Candidates eligible for advancement will be notified by the Chair of the Faculty Affairs committee and provided an application for advancement at that time. Upon approval by the Academic Affairs Committee of the Faculty Assembly, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the President, advancement in rank will take place on July 1 to coincide with the contract year and a $4,000 advancement increase, subject to availability of funds, will be awarded.
