Numerous SCC Hoke Center Classes Begin in September

The Sandhills Community College Hoke Center is responding to the growing needs of the community by offering more classes this fall semester. Many Career Training and Advanced Manufacturing classes are set to begin in September. 
Career Training
 “Notary Public” specimen handling, recordkeeping, and the healthcare profession. A Work Keys Reading for Information test, drug screening, background check, and current immunizations are required for registration.
“Notary Public”  will be held at the Sandhills Hoke Center Sept. 12 and 14 from 5:30-9 p.m.
“Industrial Sewing” provides instruction on the basic principles of practices of industrial sewing. Emphasis is placed on machine operation, setup, and maintenance, threading, sewing straight lines, corners, curves, and welts. Upon completion, students should be able to set up and operate a variety of industrial sewing machines.
“Industrial Sewing” will be held at Sun Path Products, Inc. in Raeford. The class will take place Sept. 11-Oct. 20 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday class will be 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $185.
“Medication Administration Aide” is designed to meet training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities,
administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. Please contact Jenell Powell at 695-3965 for enrollment approval.
“Medication Administration Aide” will be held at the Sandhills Hoke Center on Mondays and Wednesdays. The class will take place Sept. 18, 20, 25 and 27 from 2:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75.00 plus text.
Advanced Manufacturing
“Basic Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)” is the second course of three classes in the SCC Automated Technology Certificate program. This class explains how a programmable logic control system operates (PLC), will teach students how to understand basic logic operations, create a PLC program, design complex logic operations, master storage function applications, understand and implement the principle of program flow control, carry out analog processing, and solve complex text assignments. Basic knowledge of control engineering (basic logical operations, flip-flops, timers, counters, process control, function plans) is required. As well as basic knowledge of programming with RSLogix 5000 Rockwell Programming Software.
“Basic Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sandhills Hoke Center. The class will take place Sept. 19-Feb. 1 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185.
“The Certified Production Technician (CPT) Quality” class focuses on quality requirements in advanced manufacturing. Topics include internal quality audit activities, calibration of gages and other data collection equipment, materials inspection, documentation and communication of quality tests, fundamental blueprint reading, precision measurement tools, and systems. These programs are endorsed as quality training programs for potential entry-level employment by Unilever HPC, Tyton Biofuels, ITG Burlington Industries in Raeford and Coty, Inc. in Sanford.
“The Certified Production Technician (CPT) Quality” will be held at the Sandhills Hoke Center on Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes will take place Oct. 9 – Nov. 29 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $75 plus MSSC certification fees plus the cost of the text.
Public Safety
“CPR for Healthcare Providers” is a new offering at the Sandhills Hoke Center. Students will gain the skills needed to possibly save a life. This is the ideal class for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
“CPR for Healthcare Providers” will be held Thursday, Sept. 7 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $50 plus a $6 card fee.
Registering for Classes 
Seats are still available for Continuing Education courses. Registration can be carried out by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
