New SCC Instructor to Exhibit in Hastings Gallery

February ExhibitHeea Crownfield, a new instructor at Sandhills Community College, will exhibit works during the month of February in Hastings Gallery in the Boyd Library.
Crownfield is a sculptor and mixed-media artist whose work involves an ongoing engagement with processes and nontraditional materials exploring layering, accumulation, and the sensuous as metaphors of embodiment.
Having exhibited throughout the southeast, including at the Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro, along with at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem, Crownfield earned a Master of Fine Arts from Clemson University. Her work has been recognized by the International Sculpture Center and included in Sculpture Magazine.
The opening reception will be on Thursday, February 1 from 3-5 pm. Crownfield will hold an Artist’s Talk at 3:30. The exhibit will run through March 2. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 7:45 am- 8 pm, Friday 7:45 am- 4 pm, Saturday 9 am-1 pm and closed on Sunday.
Art Education at SCC
Crownfield will teach Art Appreciation, Sculpture I, Three-Dimensional Design, and Ceramics I for spring semester, which began January 10. Curriculum classes are also open to all, not just those seeking a degree. New students need to apply online by clicking “Apply” in the upper right-hand corner at There is no fee to apply.
The college offers an Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree. This degree is designed for those who wish to transfer to one of the UNC Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA) in Visual Arts programs under the Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts to Bachelor of Fine Arts Articulation Agreement (AFAVA to BFA AA). There are seven BFA-granting institutions within the UNC system whose focus is on the visual arts: Appalachian State University (BFA in Studio Art), East Carolina University (BFA in Arts), UNC Asheville (BFA in Art), UNC Chapel Hill (BFA in Studio Art), UNC Charlotte (BFA in Art), UNC Greensboro (BFA in Studio Art), and Western Carolina University (BFA in Art).
