Ask anyone who works at the college who is one of their most favorite people, and they are sure to say Rachel Gagliardi. They proved it in 2016 by voting her the recipient of the Staff Excellence Award.

And it’s not just because Rachel makes sure everyone’s paycheck is deposited every month. As the Payroll Accountant, her door is always open to assist employees with questions about their paycheck or retirement. She says her day is brighter when she can do something special for someone else.

People always ask Rachel when she plans to retire. “I love my job,” she says. “I enjoy my work and the people at Sandhills. Hopefully, I will continue to have good health and I can continue to work for several more years.

“There is a family atmosphere here. I have always felt appreciated at Sandhills in my work as well as an individual.”

Rachel is another Sandhills alumnus, graduating with a degree in Accounting. She began working at the college 18 years ago in Accounts Receivable as a Cashier.

A 24-year resident of Eagle Springs, Rachel is a widow and shares her home with her mother of 93. With a wide smile, she beams with pride telling of her five, soon to be six, grandchildren.

You’d never expect it, but bowling is her number one hobby — she is on three bowling leagues. When she’s not racking up strikes, Rachel enjoys fishing, golf, and watching sports on television, especially NC State. She also likes to cook and share her creations with others.
