If Joe Brown’s wife can’t sleep, what does she say? “Darling, tell me about your day at work.”

Spreadsheets, crunching numbers, budgeting, accounting, and tedious meetings are not for everyone, but Joe Brown loves his job. He began working at Sandhills ten years ago and has been the college’s Accountant, Assistant and Director of Finance, and is now the Controller.

Joe isn’t as dull as jokes make Controllers out to be. Hailing from Pinehurst, he plays golf as often as he can. He also has a side business called Knotted Pine Restorations, where he builds, restores, and refinishes furniture.

Sports has always been a big part of his life. He played football, basketball, and baseball at Union Pines High School.  When attending Guilford College, he played football and baseball.

Joe transferred to East Carolina University where he graduated with a degree in Managerial Finance. Later he earned a Master’s in Business Administration from UNC-Pembroke.

“It’s great to be able to see the impact your job makes in students’ lives and the community,” said Joe. “Plus, Sandhills is not your typical community college, it has the look and feel of a small private college.”
