Career Training Classes to Begin at SCC in September

LMechanic job in uniform working on careaves aren’t the only things that change in the fall. Change your path and begin training for the career you’ve always wanted. Several classes are being offered this September in healthcare, business, automotive, industry, and real estate. The Continuing Education Career Training department at Sandhills Community College is the perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability, or explore new opportunities.


“Escort Vehicle Operator Certification” meets the training requirements set by the NC Department of Transportation to certify Oversize-Overweight load escort vehicle drivers. Course components consist of defensive driving, escort driver requirements, skills training, and an exam. Must have a valid driver’s license without restrictions other than the use of a corrective lens. Must not have a DWI or reckless driving within the previous 12 months. Must be 21 years of age. Can be 18 with a Class A commercial driver’s license. This class will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The cost is $75.

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. This class will be held on Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class. This class will be held on Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.


“Activity Director” is designed to provide basic training to become an Activity Director in a healthcare- related setting, such as long-term care or assisted living facilities or adult care homes. Students successfully completing the entire 85 hours of training (60 hours in class and 25 practical experience hours) will receive a Certificate of Completion and can use this course as a step toward a national certification for Activity Coordinators. Background check and drug screening is required by clinical sites at an additional cost to the student.

“Activity Director” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10-Nov. 14 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text and background check.


Prepare for the F.A.A. Part 107 Remote Pilot certification exam in “F.A.A. Remote Drone Pilot Certification.” Topics include flight theory, flight operations, and flight training, national air space & weather utilizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot – Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide, North Carolina Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Permit Knowledge Test Study Guide, and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation UAS flight standards & best practices. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit.

“F.A.A. Remote Drone Pilot Certification” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with two Saturday classes, Sept. 21 and Oct. 5 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of text.

Real Estate

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” provides an intensive review of topics and prepares students for the NC Broker licensing examination. Topics covered include real estate terms, contracts, leases, ownership, licensing law, finance, listing and closing of property, property valuation, and building construction.

The prerequisite for this class is Work Keys Reading and Math, Level 5 or higher or verification of a post-secondary degree.

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 11-Dec. 11 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text.


Complete “Forklift Operator” and become eligible for the forklift operator’s license. Topics include the basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects in operation. This class will be held on Friday, Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 14 from 8 a.m.-noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of text.


The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.
