Career Training Classes Begin in March at Sandhills

The Continuing Education Career Training program at Sandhills Community College is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.

Health Care 

“COT Exam Review (Certified Ophthalmic Technician’s Exam)” will review the content areas for taking IJCHAPO’s COT written exam. It will cover the topics listed on IJCHAPS website.

“COT Exam Review” will be held on Tuesdays, March 12-April 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

“Mental Health First Aid USA” is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

“Mental Health First Aid USA” will be held on Tuesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 28 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

Automotive Technologies

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.

“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held on Monday, March. 11 and Tuesday, March 12 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Business, Hospitality, and Food Service

“Bank Teller Training” is designed for those interested in becoming a bank teller. This course will include an introduction to banking operations, handling cash, balancing operations, customer relations, and security procedures.

“Bank Teller Training” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 19-April 25 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the text.

Learn the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements in “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation.” This course is recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff.

“ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will be held on March 11, 12, 18 and 19 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75.

Industry

Participants successfully completing “Forklift Operator” will be eligible for the forklift operator’s license. Topics to be presented include the basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects in operation.

“Forklift Operator” will be held on Friday, March 22 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, March 23 from 8 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Teambuilding

The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Waiver and medical release forms required. Parent signature required if under 18. Email degrel@sandhills.edu for required forms. You can also schedule your own private group adventure.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until noon.
