Career Training Classes at The Hoke Center Begin in September

The Continuing Education Career Training program is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.

Health Care Occupations

“Nurse Aide, Level 1 Refresher” is a forty-hour program designed for those whose listing has expired on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Eligible students must have completed a State-Approved Nurse Aide I program and have a certificate or transcript supporting completion. This program is also designed for individuals with a state-recognized or military health care credential. Please contact Jenell Powell at 695-3965 for enrollment approval.

“Nurse Aide, Level 1 Refresher” will be held on Sept 25, 27, 28 and Oct 2 and 4 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The cost is $130.

“Medication Administration Aide” is designed to meet training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. “Medication Administration Aide” will be held on Sept 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.


A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

“Notary Public” will be held on Tuesday, Sept 25 and Thursday, Sept 27 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until noon.
