Test Exemptions & Placement Testing

In order to register for curriculum classes at Sandhills Community College, you may need to take the college placement test.

Do NOT take the placement test if:

  • You graduated from a US high school (public, private, or home) within the last ten years
  • You met minimum SAT or ACT test score requirements within the last ten years
  • You took a placement test at another college within the last ten years
  • You passed English and math at another college or university
  • You have an associates degree or higher

If any of these apply to you, please submit all official transcripts/test scores to the admissions office. If not, you may need to take the placement test.  Please call 910-246-4121 or 910-695-3725 if you are unsure of your placement status.

If you need to test,

    1. Make an appointment
      Email testing@sandhills.edu to schedule a testing appointment.
      Appointments are available on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:00 am.
    2. Prepare  (Please take the time to prepare as there is no retesting.)
    3. Test
      Please arrive ON TIME for your scheduled testing appointment.
      Come to Stone Hall room 219 (upstairs).
      A photo ID is REQUIRED for testing.

Transfer Scores to Another School

Official placement test scores can be transferred to another institution. A written request is required. There is no fee for transferring placement test scores. Simply complete the Placement Test Score Transfer form and fax it to 910.695.3981, mail it Attn: Testing Office, or email it to testing@sandhills.edu.
