Curriculums in the Mobile Equipment Maintenance and Repair pathway prepare individuals for employment as entry-level transportation service technicians. The program provides an introduction to transportation industry careers and increases student awareness of the diverse technologies associated with this dynamic and challenging field.

Course work may include transportation systems theory, braking systems, climate control, design parameters, drive trains, electrical/electronic systems, engine repair, engine performance, environmental regulations, materials, product finish, safety, steering/suspension, and transmission/transaxles,  depending on the program major area chosen.

Graduates of this pathway should be prepared to take professional licensure exams, which correspond to certain programs of study, and to enter careers as entry-level technicians in the transportation industry.

Employment Prospects

The number of jobs for automotive service technicians, mechanics, and automotive body and related repairers is projected to grow as fast or faster than average for all occupations over the next decade. Employment growth will create many new jobs. However, total job openings will be significantly larger, because many skilled technicians are expected to retire and will need to be replaced.

 

Our Programs

The Department of Automotive & Collision Repair Technologies at Sandhills Community College offers various degrees and certificates enabling individuals to enter the workforce working in automotive systems technology or auto body repair.

You will be provided with current technology and comprehensive training. All aspects of both programs, Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology and Automotive Systems Technology, are taught using a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on application. A cooperative work experience is a valuable part of our program.
