The Glory of Visual Arts During the Renaissance

Sandhills Community College is pleased to announce another Carolina Public Humanities: Humanities on the Road and Sandhills Community College series, “The Glory of Visual Arts During the Renaissance.” This will be held in Clement Dining Room in Dempsey Student Center on Thursday, March 14 from 10:30 am until 3 pm (registration begins at 10) and lunch is included in the $25 fee.

Carolyn Allmendinger, Director of Academic Programs at the Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chapel Hill, and SCC Professor Abbe Allen will be the presenters. Allmendinger will present “Oil Painting in the Italian Renaissance: A Beautiful Invention and a Great Convenience.” Allen’s presentation title is “Renaissance Sculpture: A Rebirth of Antiquity or a Gothic Evolution?”

Traditionally, these seminars have been held on the UNC campus. In a desire to expand locations outside of Chapel Hill, Sandhills was chosen as one of the regional homes for the annual seminar. The college has hosted several of these seminars since 2017.

Please contact the Office of Continuing Education at 910-695-3980 or register in person in Van Dusen Hall and specify course #1901065.
