Requirements for a Distance Learning Course

Internet Access

You must own or have frequent access to a computer connected to the Internet. You will need access to this computer to complete course work. You may have to spend additional time reading your textbook or doing online research. The Learning Resource Lab in our library has computers for your use if you do not have a personal computer or do not have access to one.

Computer Knowledge

You must have a general idea of how to use a computer. You will need to: save files; access files on your computer; copy files; use word processing; copy, cut and paste text; and send and receive e-mail.

Internet Knowledge

You will need to have some idea of how to use a browser and access files on the Internet. Most things will be explained in detail by your instructor, but a general idea of how to “surf the net” will be beneficial.

Software

You will need some sort of word processing software like Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or GoogleDocs.
Internet Explorer 7 is the recommended Internet browser. Other browsers may work.

E-Mail

We offer our students a free Sandhills e-mail account. You must use this account to send messages to your instructor and classmates.

CDs/DVDs

Your course may use CDs or DVDs along with the textbook. The required course materials will be listed in your syllabus, when you login to your course on the first day of the semester.
