History
RUTH M. PAULEY retired to Moore County, North Carolina after a distinguished career in social services in the United States and abroad. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she began her career in Cleveland and never wavered in her deep conviction that the public had a right to know about key issues facing society and to participate in the resolution of those issues. Her activities in the area of community awareness continued when she retired to Moore County. She was an active member of the " chapter of the League of Women Voters, served on the board of the American Association of University Women, acted as a volunteer consultant for the Moore County Department of Social Services and was a leader of the Moore County Senior Citizen Advisory Council. Deeply committed to the cause of world peace, Ruth Pauley chaired a 1983 committee to organize a series of lectures on the arms race. This sparked an on-going interest in establishing a lecture series to honor the memory of Ruth Pauley and to continue her efforts to inform the public about important issues and to encourage their participation in resolving such issues. In the spirit of Ruth Pauley the series supports a high level of study of key issues facing society.
