Career Training Classes at SCC Begin in September

The Continuing Education Career Training program is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.

Health Care Occupations

“Activity Director” Designed to provide basic training to become an Activity Director in a healt

hcare related setting, such as long-term care or assisted living facilities or adult care homes. Students successfully completing the entire 85 hours of training (60 hours in class and 25 practical experience hours) will receive a Certificate of Completion and can use this course as a step toward a national certification for Activity Coordinators. Background check and drug screening are required by clinical sites at an additional cost to the student.

“Activity Director” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept 11-Nov 15 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text and background check.

Automotive Technologies

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.

“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held on Monday, Sept 10 and Tuesday, Sept 11 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.00.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held on Monday, Sept 17 and Tuesday, Sept 18 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.00.

Business

“Drone Flight Certification” prepares learners for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS)/Drone flight certification. Topics include flight theory, flight operations, and flight training utilizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot – Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide, North Carolina Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Permit Knowledge Test Study Guide, and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation UAS flight standards & best practices. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit.

“Drone Flight Certification” will be held Sept 8, 11, 13, 25, 27 and 29 from 6-9 p.m., with Saturday classes from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” Provides an intensive review of topics and is designed to prepare the student for the sales and broker licensing examination. Topics covered include real estate terms, contracts, leases, ownership, licensing law, finance, listing and closing of property, property valuation, and building construction. The prerequisite for this class is Work Keys Reading and Math, Level 5 or higher or verification of a post-secondary degree.

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept 10-Dec 12 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.

Hospitality & Food Service

In “Bartending” learn the basics of bartending as a profession or for home use in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws.

“Bartending” will be held on Saturdays, Sept 8-29 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Industry

Participants successfully completing “Fork Lift Operator” are eligible for the fork lift operator’s license. Topics to be presented include basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects in operation.

“Fork Lift Operator” will be held on Friday, Sept 7 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept 8 from 8 a.m.-noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of text.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until noon.
