Established: 1963

Sandhills Community College is a member of the North Carolina Community College System. It was the first comprehensive community college in North Carolina to offer a college transfer program. Dr. Raymond Stone was named the first president of the college.

 

Location: Pinehurst, NC

Mary Lumen Meyer donated 240 acres on Airport Road for the college. The property sits on the dividing line between Southern Pines and Pinehurst.

Dr. John Dempsey was appointed president of the college in 1989

 

Accreditation

Sandhills Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; telephone number 404.679.4501) to award associate’s degrees, certificates, and diplomas.

Volunteers:

Approximately 200 community volunteers contribute their time and talents to Sandhills, working in the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, the Ball Visitors' Center, Boyd Library, and as tutors in curriculum or Continuing Education programs.

 

Alumni:

There are nearly 16,000 alumni in the Sandhills family. While over three-quarters of them live in North Carolina, SCC alumni can be found all over the world.
