SCC Technology Classes Moving to Online Delivery this Summer

Student waving to his computer during a video conference.Learn how to navigate Google Maps, Microsoft Office, Windows 10, and more this summer through our Technology classes. These Sandhills Community College Continuing Education classes will be offered in an online, interactive format.

Microsoft Office

Students will learn a little of everything that Microsoft Office offers including sessions on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and One Note in “Microsoft Office Overview.” This class will be held on Thursdays, June 10-Aug 6 from Noon-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Students will learn how to maximize their efficiency by learning about the apps that are included in the o365 subscription in “Microsoft o365 Business Apps Overview.” They’ll learn how to use Outlook calendar, SharePoint, One Drive, Teams, Microsoft Forms, and Whiteboard and many of the overlooked tools available to make use more effective.

“Microsoft o365 Business Apps Overview” will be held on Tuesdays, May 19-June 23 at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. Another class will be held on Tuesdays, May 19-June 16, from 6-7:30 p.m. The class will also be offered on Tuesdays, July 14-Aug. 18, at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 2-3:30 p.m., and 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

Windows Operating System

Students will learn the Windows 10 operating system in “Windows 10-Level 1.” Students will discover Windows applications, terminology, and Start Menu functions as well as operational basics. Students should have access to the Windows 10 operating system. This class will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, May 18-June 29 from 9-11 a.m. A second class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 19-July 2 from 5:30-7 p.m. The cost is $75.

Students will build upon the basics of Windows 10 in “Windows 10-Level 2.” Students will discover how to use the Action Center and the All Settings screen, how to customize their Desktop, set up, and use virtual desktops, creating folders for basic file management, and how to use File Explorer. A brief introduction to email and the Windows Store will be covered, as well as how to update Windows 10 and keep it safe. The prerequisite for this class is Windows 10-Level 1 or prior experience.

“Windows 10-Level 2” will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, July 13-Aug. 20 from 9-11 a.m. A second class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 14-Aug. 13 from 5:30-7 p.m. The cost is $75.

Email and Internet

In “Gmail and Google,” students will learn how to use Google Docs, an alternative to Microsoft Office. Students will also learn how to make face-to-face connections using Google Hangouts, and how to use Google Maps, Google Earth, and many other Google Apps.

“Gmail and Google” will be held on Fridays, May 15-June 26 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75.
