Food insecurity can be defined as having limited or uncertain access to an adequate amount of food. 39% of students at a 2-year institution may be affected by food insecurities.
Feeding America explains that food insecurity is a complex problem, and according to them, “Many people do not have the resources to meet their basic needs, challenges which increase a family’s risk of food insecurity. Though food insecurity is closely related to poverty, not all people living below the poverty line experience food insecurity and people living above the poverty line can experience food insecurity.”
The Pantry was created to address food inaccessibility for students attending Sandhills. Through this service, we can help bridge the gap and provide students with nutritious, non-perishable food.
