Public Safety Courses at SCC in January

SF&RLogoWhether you are a student seeking a career as a firefighter or a seasoned veteran needing your annual recertification’s, the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education Public Safety division has ongoing course offerings to meet your needs. The following classes are now taking registration for Spring 2018. The full course list can be viewed at
Gain entry-level training in emergency response through hands-on training and clinical experience in “EMT-Basic.” Through this course, students will develop the skills needed to provide emergency care for the sick and injured. Students will learn to respond to a variety of emergency medical situations and upon successful completion, will be able to sit for the state certification exam. The class will meet on some Thursdays and Saturdays, with a schedule provided on the first night of class. A high school diploma or high school equivalency is a prerequisite for this course. Please bring the copy on the first night of class. The cost is $180 plus a $5 tech fee.
“EMT-Basic” will be held Monday and Tuesdays, Jan. 8-May 15 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $180 plus a $5 technology fee.
Students will gain the skills needed to possibly save a life in “CPR for Healthcare Providers.” This is the ideal class for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The cost is $54 and includes the card fee.
“CPR for Healthcare Providers” will be offered Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
“Firefighter Certification Classes” are offered throughout the semester on nights and weekends at the Larry R. Caddell Public Safety Training Center in Carthage. The cost is $75 which may be waived for qualified students.
Fire Academy
Those interested in being members of the upcoming, Fire Academy class beginning Feb. 13, should request more information and an application from Michelle Bauer, Sandhills’ Fire and Rescue Director at (910) 695-3774 or Applications can be found on the college’s website under Continuing Education Public Safety Fire and Rescue. Applications will be accepted as long as seats are available.
Current volunteer firefighters may be eligible for a fee waiver based on their membership with a local, city, county, or state fire department.
The Fire Academy is a full-time program with classes held Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost of the academy ranges from $75 – $185 and may be waived for qualified students, plus a $180 uniform fee and $2.50 for insurance.

Register in the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall on the Pinehurst campus at 3395 Airport Road.
