Think outside of the box (of chocolates) this year for a Valentine's Day gift. Wow that special someone with a culinary class at Sandhills Community College. Spend time together and learn to make something delicious. The macaroons, Mexican wedding cookies, or classic crepes classes are perfect if your honey loves sweets. If that doesn't fit the bill, what about learning to make homemade bread or sushi?

"Macarons" will teach you what it takes to make these delicious French treats. Students will be shown how to make the batter, pipe the Macarons, and then make a filling to pipe in between the finished product for tasting. We will start with a basic vanilla Macaroon and then make a caramel macaroon finishing with an Oreo macaroon. Held on Wednesday, February 8, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Breads for the Home Baker" will teach you how to bake like a pro in a home kitchen. Chef Brunner will share soft rolls, focaccia, and Polish-based French bread recipes and explain tricks to achieve great results using basic kitchen equipment. You will learn proper mixing, shaping, and baking techniques along with how to create a preferment for extra flavor in the bread. Held on Friday, February 17, from 3-6 pm, this class will cost $75.

In "Capriotada, Mexican Wedding Cookies, and Polvorones," you will learn how to make Mexican bread pudding. Made with cinnamon, piloncillo, cloves, raisins, bread, and cheese. We will also make Mexican Wedding cookies and Polvorones (Mexican Sugar cookies). Held on Monday, February 20, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Classic Crepes" is a hands-on class where you will learn how to make classic crepes properly. Each student will make a savory dish with a delicate vegetable filling plus a sweet dish with a fresh fruit sauce from the crepes you create. Take home recipes to impress your family and friends! Held on Tuesday, February 21, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.

In "Sushi," students will learn tips and techniques for making perfect sushi rice, choosing and prepping ingredients, and finishing with a variety of sauce choices. Take home recipes and skills to make your own creations! Held on Tuesday, February 28, from 5:30-7:30 pm, this class will cost $75.

Spring Eight-Week Curriculum Session 

An eight-week session of spring semester curriculum classes begins on March 13. Offered online and in hybrid class formats, classes take only eight weeks to complete and award full credits. For all information, go to

Boys & Girls Club

Sandhills is now the location of a new Boys & Girls Club Unit. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. Transportation is provided from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.

In addition, there is a drop-in Club from 6–9 pm for children of parents/guardians taking evening classes or needing to meet for group projects or other academic reasons. Dinner will be provided for the children. This drop-in club is free.

CCP Classes for High School Students

Moore and Hoke County High School students can take classes at SCC as juniors and seniors. Those completing the required number of CCP credits qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
