New Automotive Class in Diesel Engines for Fall Semester

Sandhills Community College has expanded course offerings in its automotive program to include a highly requested class, Introduction to Light Duty Diesel.

The course will cover the history, evolution, basic design, and operational parameters for light-duty diesel engines used in on-road applications. Topics will include familiarization with the light-duty diesel, safety procedures, engine service and maintenance procedures, and an introduction to combustion and emission chemistry. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic service operations and demonstrate proper safety procedures.

To accommodate those who work during the day but would like to learn about diesel engine repair, Introduction to Light Duty Diesel will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. beginning on August 16.

Pending SCC Board approval, there will be a Drop-In Boys and Girls Club for children of parents/guardians who are taking evening classes at SCC. Dinner will be provided for the children and staff will offer homework assistance. Details are currently being finalized.

Introduction to Light Duty Diesel is a curriculum/college credit class. New students must apply before registering. Sandhills has an open-door policy which means all applicants are accepted. On www.sandhills.edu, new students can find the application at the top right. Returning or current students can register by using Self-Service located on MySCC.
