May and June Career Development Classes at SCC

Career Development Color RGB-01The goal of the Career Development division at Sandhills Community College is to assist students in assessing their interests, personality traits, and abilities in setting career and educational goals, and in creating a pathway that will lead to economic, social, and educational success. The fee for Career Development classes is waived for qualified students.
“Upgrade Your Computer Skills” will help you fine-tune your computer skills. You will engage in hands-on learning based on your individual needs whether you are a beginner or a savvy computer user. Get assistance with job searches, preparing cover letters, creating your résumé or completing an online application.
“Upgrade Your Computer Skills” will be held May 14-June 7, Monday-Thursday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The cost of $130 is waived for qualified students.
Career Planning and Job Keeping Skills
Discover your ideal career in the class, “Find Your Career.” Explore new career opportunities, set goals, and make the improvements needed to reach your potential. Develop a written plan of action that will set you on your way to success.
“Find Your Career” will be held Monday-Thursday, June 11-21 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The cost of $75 is waived for qualified students.
“Ignite Your Résumé” will help you get your résumé noticed. Use keywords to get your résumé noticed on the internet. Improve your résumé by using marketing and branding techniques to enhance your chance of getting a job interview in a competitive job market.
“Ignite Your Résumé” will be held Monday-Thursday, June 25-28 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The cost of $75 is waived for qualified students.
“Revamp Your Career” will help you to match your skills with an existing job or develop a training plan to learn new skills, explore career opportunities, and develop a written plan of action. Create or update your résumé, customizing it for different jobs. Learn to sell yourself and stand out from other applicants in an interview. Learn to deal with the stress of long-term unemployment and how to use your age as an asset in your job search. Call Pamela Alsobrook at (910) 944-7697 for more information and to register.
“Revamp Your Career” takes place at NCWorks Career Center-Moore County twice a month on Wednesdays from 9-10:30 a.m. The cost is $75 and will be waived for qualified students.
“Become a DSS Caseworker” will help you realize a career with the Department of Social Services as an Income Maintenance Worker. Acquire the skills required to be successful in an entry-level position. WorkKeys assessments (a prerequisite for Phase II) are administered in this class to prepare you for the next Phase of this program – Income Maintenance Caseworker.
“Become a DSS Caseworker” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 15-July 3 from 6-9 p.m. There is a $45 assessment fee and the cost of $130 is waived for qualified students
Register in the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall on the Pinehurst campus at 3395 Airport Road.
