January Career Training Classes at SCC

Career TRAINING-01The Continuing Education Career Training program is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities. Fall brings a variety of classes to enrich your professional development.
Automotive
Successful completion of the “Auto Safety Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. Must have a valid driver’s license.
“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held Jan. 8 and 9 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
Successful completion of the “OBD Emissions Control Inspection” course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. Students must be Certified in Auto Safety Inspection. This is also the Recertification class.
“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held Jan. 22 and 23 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
Health Care Occupations
Learn required skills to become a certified “EKG Technician” and work in a variety of healthcare settings. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiac cycle, EKG strip analysis, 12 lead EKG, and EKG procedures.
“EKG Technician” will be held Jan. 22-May 9 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.
Advance your training as a Nurse Aide by taking “Geriatric Nurse Aide.” This class is focused on geriatric care with an emphasis on person-centered care concepts, hydration, nutrition, mental health, dementia, behavioral challenges, pain management, palliative care and stress management. Upon completion, students are eligible for listing as a Geriatric Nurse Aide with the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry. Proof of current listing on the Nurse Aide Registry and that you completed an approved nurse aide training program is required before enrolling. “Geriatric Nurse Aide” will be held Jan. 8-Mar. 22 on Mondays and Thursdays from 4-9 p.m. The cost is $185.
A “Medical Administrative Assistant” is a valuable member of the healthcare team who can handle a broad range of duties, including patient registration, telephone, scheduling, medical records, accounts receivable, data entry, and medical claims. Upon completion, you will be prepared for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
“Medical Administrative Assistant”  will be held Jan. 17-June 20 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $250.00 plus the cost of the text.
The state-certified “Nurse Aide, Level 1” program will prepare students for work under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals in performing hands-on patient care. The course includes preparation for the State Board examination for NC NA Registry listing. Please contact Jenell Powell at 695-3965 for program information.
“Nurse Aide, Level 1” will be held at St. Joseph of the Pines from Jan. 10-May 9 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $205.50 plus the cost of the course pack.
The “Pharmacy Technician” class will prepare you for the certification exam and for entry-level employment. Topics include technical procedures for preparing and dispensing prescriptions, packaging and labeling, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, pharmacy calculations, and over-the-counter drugs. Upon completion, students will be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a community pharmacy setting.
“Pharmacy Technician” will be held Jan. 23-May 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9:30 p.m. The cost is $185.00 plus the cost of the texts.
“Phlebotomy Technician & Clinical Rotation” will teach you the skills necessary to draw blood specimens in various healthcare settings and blood donation centers. Topics include venipuncture, specimen handling, record-keeping, and the healthcare profession. A Work Keys Workplace Documents test, drug screening, background check, and current immunizations are required for registration. Please email degrel@sandhills.edu for a complete list of program requirements.

Team Building
The activities involved in the “Sandhills High Adventure Rope Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. This course will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision making, and effective communication. Customized Training for Business and Industry
The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Registration
Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
