Holiday Concert at SCC

GettyImages-491936414The Sandhills Community College Music Department’s annual Holiday Concert will be on Monday, December 4 at 7 pm in Owens Auditorium. The show will feature the talents of the SCC Choir, faculty and student instrumentalists, vocalists, and guest musicians.
The SCC Choir, led by Jennifer Thomas, will perform spirituals, traditional carols and several jazz arrangements and Motown’s great “White Christmas” as performed by The Drifters. Soloists will include Patrick Martin, Dillon Corral, and The Rev. James Belle. Accompanying the Choir will be violinists Erica Braun and Kaitlyn Johnson, who will also be performing holiday violin duets.
Other performers will include students musicians Joseph Orabuena on guitar and trombonist Patrick Martin. Faculty performers will be percussionist Tim Haley and duo pianists, Dr. Kristina Henckel and Jennifer Thomas. The two will perform Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”
Guests are asked to bring a canned food item as the price of admission. The students will deliver them to the Sandhills Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
Music Education at SCC
The SCC Music Department offers an Associate’s degree in Fine Arts in Music and Music Education. This degree, giving a foundation in music theory, music history, and applied music performance skills, is designed to prepare students for transfer to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program at a senior college or university.
Curriculum music classes can be taken by students interested in a degree or by those who wish to take classes for personal enrichment. The college offers music appreciation, fundamentals, music history, theory, chorus, band, jazz, orchestra, ensemble and many performance classes.

Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Institute will offer piano in three levels. They are scheduled to be held on Thursday afternoons and will run January 25-April 12. Call 910-695-3980 for information or to register.
