Health Care Occupation Classes Begin Soon

The Continuing Education Career Training department at Sandhills Community College is the perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability, or explore new opportunities.

In “EKG Technician,” students will learn the required skills to become a certified EKG Technician and work in a variety of healthcare settings. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiac cycle, EKG strip analysis, 12 lead EKG, and EKG procedures. “EKG Technician” prepares students for the EKG certification with ASPT. This class will be taught online using Google Classroom and Zoom.

“EKG Technician” will be held online, Mondays and Wednesdays, May 18-Aug. 10 from 5:30-9:30 p.m, online. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text.

In “Nurse Aide, Level 1” students will prepare to work as a Nurse Aide under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals by performing hands-on patient care. Successful completion prepares students for the State Board examination for NC NA Registry listing. Email for a complete list of program requirements. “Nurse Aide, Level 1” be held Monday-Thursday, May 27- July 30, online, with face-to-face meeting for lab and clinical only. Lab hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Clinical hours will be 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $205.50 plus the cost of the course pack.

“Medical Administrative Assistants” are valuable members of the healthcare team handling a broad range of duties, including patient registration, telephone, scheduling, medical records, accounts receivable, data entry, and medical claims. This class prepares individuals for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). “Medical Administrative Assistant” will be online using Google Classroom and Zoom.

“Medical Administrative Assistant” is a self-paced class, classwork times and days will vary. The class will meet weekly, online at 6 p.m. on Mondays, from May 18-July 28. The cost is $255 plus the cost of text.

Students will prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and for entry-level employment in “Pharmacy Technician.” Topics include technical procedures for preparing and dispensing prescriptions, packaging and labeling, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, pharmacy calculations, and over-the-counter drugs. Upon completion, students will be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a community pharmacy setting. This class will be held online using Google Classroom and Zoom. The prerequisite for this class is WorkKeys Math Level 4.

“Pharmacy Technician” will be held online, Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 12-Aug. 13 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text.
