Free College and Career Readiness Classes at the Hoke Center this Summer

Closeup cropped image of student's hands typing using laptop.Sandhills Community College’s College and Career Readiness programs provide educational opportunities at no cost to those who need a high school equivalency diploma or those who need to improve their academic skills. Each program is designed to meet students’ unique learning needs. Classes are available during the day and evening hours at several convenient locations in Moore and Hoke Counties.

In accordance with social gathering restrictions, all classes have been adjusted to provide various distance learning opportunities to include online classes and paper learning packets for individuals without internet access. Students are offered the same support and individualized instruction provided in traditional face-to-face classes.

An online Orientation and the completion of a pre-orientation assessment session is required. To sign up by phone, call (910) 848-4300 or visit sandhills.edu/ccr to complete an online orientation request.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

We offer “Adult Basic Education” classes for the Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced adult learners to help them improve reading, writing, math, spelling, and language skills to fulfill educational and/or career goals.

“Adult Basic Education” classes will be offered online and paper learning packets will be made available for students without internet access throughout the summer.

Transition English and Transition Math

High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE) 

“High School Equivalency Diploma” is designed for adults who did not complete a high school education or who wish to strengthen their skills before pursuing post-secondary education or employment. Sandhills Community College currently offers official GED® and HiSET® testing services.

“High School Equivalency” classes will be offered online and paper learning packets will be made available for students without internet access throughout the summer.

Fast Track to High School Equivalency

The High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE) is designed for adults who did not complete a high school education or who wish to strengthen their skills before pursuing post-secondary education or employment. We can help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to pass the GED tests in only four weeks. “Fast Track to HSE” will be offered online July 13 through August 7 and may offer weekly face-to-face study sessions once a week (if possible). Students must schedule a pre-testing session prior to the start of the course to qualify. Please call Beckie Kimbrell at (910) 695-3779 or email kimbrellr@sandhills.edu before July 1 to schedule your pre-testing session. There is no cost for the class and assistance may be available for testing fees.

English Language Acquisition (ELA)

“English Language Acquisition” is for adults who have limited or no proficiency in the English language. For more information or to schedule an ELA orientation, contact Isabel Cain at (910) 246-4975.
