Culinary Classes at SCC in October

Even though it’s October, you don’t want to scare off guests with your cooking (pun intended). Whether you’re planning a party or trying to figure out stock and sauces, Sandhills Community College’s Continuing Education Center for Creative Living will be offering several interesting culinary classes in October.

Come ready to create mouthwatering delights for your family and friends in “Party Appetizers Two-Part Series.” You will make a wide variety of party appetizers including cranberry and Brie Crostini and caramelized onion and Prosciutto Crostini. Chef Giorgia will show you how to impress your guests with these delicious eats.

“Party Appetizers Two-Part Series” will be held Monday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 4 from 3-6 p.m. The cost is $150.

Learn the foundation of stocks and sauces as well as complimentary dishes in “Foundation Cooking: Stocks and Sauces Series.” In the first class, you will learn about homemade chicken stock from breaking down whole chickens to make bone stock and then make Braised Chicken in Creamy Mushroom Sauce. Night two will teach you how to make homemade veal stock by preparing veal bone stock and then prepare Pan Seared Medallions in a Red Wine Sauce. You will round out the course by preparing a rich vegetable stock and use it to make Roasted Vegetable soup and Butternut Squash & Apple Soup.

“Foundation Cooking: Stocks and Sauces Series” will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11 and 18 from 5-8 p.m. The second class will be offered on Fridays, Oct. 5, 12, and 19 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Learn to prepare and cook for two in “Healthy Cooking for Two.” Designed for couples or families of two looking to prepare nutritious dishes together, enjoy a healthy, fall-style menu and take home more recipes to try on your own.

“Healthy Cooking for Two” will be held on Monday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
