CRRSAA – Student Update

Reporting Element #1 – Acknowledgement

As part of CRRSAA, Sandhills Community College received notification from the Department of Education on January 17, 2021 of a supplemental award in the amount of $1,016,529.00.  One hundred percent of the total funds received will be awarded directly to students.

Reporting Element #2 – Total Funds Received

Sandhills Community College received $1,016,529.00 from the Department of Education pursuant to Section 314(a)(1) Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

Reporting Elements #3 & #5 – Total Amount Disbursed & Total Number of Recipients

As of Wednesday, March 31, 2021, the College distributed a total of $34,844.00 to 139 curriculum students for the Spring 2021 semester for “expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus”.

As of Wednesday, June 30, 2021, the College did not award any additional CRRSAA funds to students.

As of Thursday, September 30, 2021, the College distributed a total of $979,000 to 1176 curriculum students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CRRSAA Act for the Summer 2021 semester for “expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus”.

On September 30, 2021, the College closed the awarding process for the Summer 2021 semester.  As of September 30, 2021, all CRRSAA Act funds were awarded.

Summary of funds disbursed by semester:

Spring 2021 – Curriculum – $34,844.00 to 139 students

Summer 2021- Curriculum- $979,000 to 1176 students

Reporting Elements #4 – Total Number of Eligible Student

For the Spring 2021 semester, there are approximately 1,750 curriculum students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

For the Summer 2021 semester, there are approximately 1701 curriculum students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

Reporting Element #6 – Methods for Awarding

For the quarter ending March 31, 2021, CRRSAA funds were automatically distributed to students who demonstrated the greatest need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Department of Education (Automatic Zero Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) Pell Recipients for Spring 2021).  The award amount for this population of students was $252 for transportation expenses.

As of Wednesday, June 30, 2021, the College did not award any additional CRRSAA funds to students.

For the quarter ending September 30, 2021, funds were automatically distributed to degree seeking and non-credit curriculum students who were enrolled in or had successfully completed at least one Summer 2021 course, at the time of awarding. Those that demonstrated the greatest need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Department of Education (Zero Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) Pell Recipients for Summer 2021) were awarded $1000 for expenses that included monthly internet costs and/or food needs off-campus. Students that completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) but with an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of more than 0 OR did not complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) received the amount of $750.

Reporting Element #7 – Information Provided to Students

The source of funds used to provide these awards was provided to the students at the time that the College awarded all eligible participants.

 

CRRSAA – Institutional Update

March – June 2021

Sandhills Community College received $3,164,977 from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA). The college also received $276,259 from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund- Strengthening Institutions Program.  Additional section and increased workload expenses totaled $87,479. $396,263 replaced lost revenue from academic sources. Expenses related to disinfecting and reconfiguring facilities to promote safe social distancing totaled $295,298. The continued expansion of campus wifi cost $98,138.  Cybersecurity software and related services totaled $35,758.  To update computers remotely, the college spent $21,924. Computers, cameras, and video conferencing equipment cost $18,495. Sandhills Community College spent $ 2,434 to create a socially distanced quiet space for students in the college library.

July – September 2021

Sandhills Community College received $6,630,695 from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II and III) authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) and the American Rescue Plan, 2021(ARP). The college also received $588,921 from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund- Strengthening Institutions Program.  Tuition discounts of $155,895 were distributed.  To cover technology hardware, the college spent $65,410.  The college spent $13,963 to update and improve eating facilities.  Additional class section costs totaled $30,956.  The costs associated with PPE supplies and contact tracing were $21,555. Lost revenues from academic sources were $109,000.  Lost revenues for facilities, bookstore, canceled events, and other ancillary services totaled $347,300.  Technology training for faculty and staff equaled $873,996.  The college continued its expansion of Wi-Fi and purchased some additional software to improve student outcomes and learning. $57,874 was spent on these projects.
