Creative Living Classes Begin at SCC in April

Whether you’re looking to protect your retirement investments, deepen your understanding of current events, learn a new language, or perfect culinary skills, the SCC Continuing Education Center for Creative Living can help you reach your personal goals in order to achieve a more rewarding life.

“Retirement Protection” will explore retirement planning protection strategies. Discussions over the four weeks include avoiding costly probate mistakes, long term care and income planning, and investment strategies with a parachute.

“Retirement Protection” will be held on Tuesdays, April 23-May 14 from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $35.

“U.S. Counter-terrorism Policy 1970-Present” will introduce students to America’s evolving policies for countering terrorist groups. Topics include the 2018 Counterterrorism (CT) and 2017 national security strategies, the evolution of CT policy since the early 1970s, and an assessment of numerous presidents’ efforts to decrease terrorist motivators. Upon completion, students should be able to describe current U.S policy, understand motivations for terrorism, and follow the discussions of terrorism in the Press with ease. Jason Howk contributed new ideas to the 2018 US Counterterrorism policy.

“U.S. Counter-terrorism Policy 1970-Present” will be held on Wednesdays, April 3-May 1 from 10 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $45.

“Italian Intermediate Conversation” is designed for students who are planning to travel or those who have a distinct business need. The prerequisite for this class is Italian Beginning Conversation or prior experience.

This class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, April 1-May 8 from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Culinary Club

It’s all the rage, but what is an Instant Pot? Join us for this hybrid demo/hands-on class to discover the ins and outs of Instant Pot features, functions, and safety tips. We’ll prepare juicy tender brisket as the centerpiece of our meal. “Instant Pot” will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 5-8 p.m. Another class will be offered on Friday, April 5 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $75.

Sweet pies and tarts can be overrated. You will be converted to savory when you learn how to make a bacon, cheddar, and onion tarte “flambé,” and Natchitoches Meat pies to quench your hunger in “Savory Pies and Tarts.” This class will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $75.

Enjoy the true island flavor of Jamaican Curried Chicken, Coconut Rice and Peas, and Fried Green Banana in “Global Cuisine – Caribbean.” This class will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 5-8 p.m. Another class will be offered on Friday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost is $75.


Register in the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall on the Pinehurst campus at 3395 Airport Road.
