Voter Registration

Sandhills Community College encourages students to take an active part in local, state and national elections.  In support of this activity, the Boyd Library provides a month-long outreach effort to make the campus aware of Voter Registration with lobby distribution of materials, including at the Hoke Center.  An SCC All-Users email and All Patrons email goes out at the start of the Voter Registration drive.  In addition, the Department of Student Life annually hosts a member of the local board of elections to assist students with completing the voter registration process.  This event is marketed through the College’s student newsletter.

Constitution Day

On or around September 17 of each year, and in accordance with federal legislative mandates, Sandhills Community College will conduct annual events celebrating American democracy and the signing of the Constitution.

SCC encourages all Americans to observe this important day in our nation’s history by conducting and attending local ceremonies and programs that bring together community members to reflect on the importance of active citizenship and to recognize the enduring strength of the Constitution in being the foundation of the freedoms provided to all Americans.

Through exhibits, in-person events, and virtual outreach, the College will promote student and community awareness of the Constitution.  Such events have included:

  • Hosting Faculty/Staff/Student reading of the Preamble and the Amendments on the McNeill-Woodward Green.
  • Providing a virtual celebration through Student Life.
  • Providing annual distribution of a pocket guide to the U.S. Constitution.
  • Producing an annual exhibit of Constitution guides and artifacts on display each September.
