Career Training Classes to Begin at SCC This Fall

The Continuing Education Career Training department at Sandhills Community College is the perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability, or explore new opportunities.


Designed for those interested in becoming a bank teller, “Bank Teller Training” includes an introduction to banking operations, handling cash, balancing operations, customer relations, and security procedures. This class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 8-Nov. 14 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of text.

“Drone Video and Photography” is a more in-depth class how students can use their drone for site survey assessment, mission planning, equipment inspection, drone camera configuration setup, and basic editing. The pre-requisite for this class is “F.A.A. Remote Drone Pilot Certification.”

“Drone Video and Photography” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 15-Nov. 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be two Saturday classes, on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $75.

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Prepare to have proof of a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions. This class will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 1 and 3 from 5:45-9:15 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of text.


“Mental Health First Aid USA” is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

“Mental Health First Aid” will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. The cost is $75.

“Medication Administration Aide” meets the training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations. “Medication Administration Aide” will be held Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 12-15 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of text.


Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. This class will be held on Monday, Oct. 7 and Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6-10 p.m. Another class will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class. This class will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 and Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6-10 p.m. A second class will be held on Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Real Estate

“301 Broker Relationships and Responsibilities” include a review of agency relationships; sales and commercial property management transactions; a real estate broker’s legal duties to clients and customers; a step-by-step review and discussion of the functions and responsibilities of a real estate broker when working with sellers and buyers; a review of issues associated with transactions in progress when a broker leaves a firm; and a review of license status and education issues.

“301 Broker Relationships and Responsibilities” will be held on Thursdays and Fridays, Oct. 24-Nov. 1. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the text.

Hospitality & Food Service

Students will learn the basics of “Bartending” as a profession or for leisure in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws. “Bartending” will be held on Saturdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Learn the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements in “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation.” Recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff. “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays, Oct. 14-22 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75.


The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.
