Career Training Classes to Begin at SCC in February

The Continuing Education Career Training department at Sandhills Community College is the perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability, or explore new opportunities.

Automotive

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. This class will be held on Monday, Feb. 3 and Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class. This class will be held on Monday, Feb. 17 and Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Business

Students will prepare for the F.A.A. Part 107 Remote Pilot certification exam in “F.A.A Remote Drone Pilot Certification.” Topics include flight theory, flight operations, flight training, national air space, and weather. This class uses the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide, North Carolina Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Permit Knowledge Test Study Guide, and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation UAS flight standards best practices. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit.

“F.A.A Remote Drone Pilot Certification” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 4-March 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with two Saturday classes on Feb. 22 and Feb. 29 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of text.

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Prepare to have proof of a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions. This class will be held on Monday, Feb. 3 and Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 5:45-9:15 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of text.

Real Estate

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” provides an intensive review of topics and prepares the student for the NC Broker licensing examination. Topics covered include real estate terms, contracts, leases, ownership, licensing law, finance, listing and closing of property, property valuation, and building construction.

The prerequisite for this class is Work Keys Reading and Math, Level 5 or higher or verification of a post-secondary degree.

“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 3-April 29 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text.

Hospitality & Food Service

Students will learn the basics of “Bartending” as a profession or for leisure in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws. “Bartending” will be held on Saturdays, Feb. 1-22 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Teambuilding

The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Waiver and medical release forms required. Parents need to sign for participants under 18. Email degrel@sandhills.edu for forms. You can also schedule your own private group adventure. Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Registration

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. Registration by phone at (910) 695-3980 or preregistration online at sandhills.edu/cereg are also available accepting all major credit cards. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
