The Continuing Education Career Training program at Sandhills Community College is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.
Health Care Occupations
Designed to provide basic training to become an “Activity Director” in a healthcare related setting, such as long-term care or assisted living facilities or adult care homes. Students successfully completing the entire 85 hours of training (60 hours in class and 25 practical experience hours) will receive a Certificate of Completion and can use this course as a step toward a national certification for Activity Coordinators. Background check and drug screening is required by clinical sites at an additional cost to the student.
“Activity Director” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 26-May 2 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of text and background check.
Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.
“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held on Monday, Feb. 11 and Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class.
“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held on Monday, Feb. 25 and Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.
A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.
“Notary Public” will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5:45-9:15 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.
“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” provides an intensive review of topics and is designed to prepare the student for the sales and broker licensing examination. Topics covered include real estate terms, contracts, leases, ownership, licensing law, finance, listing and closing of property, property valuation, and building construction.
“Real Estate Pre-Licensing” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 11-May 6 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.
Hospitality and Food Service
“Bartending” will teach you the basics of bartending as a profession or for home use in only four Saturdays. Topics include popular mixed drinks, wine, utensils, glassware, fruit cutting, bar procedures, and ABC laws.
“Bartending” will be held on Saturdays, Feb. 2-23 from 9 a.m-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.
