Career Development Classes to Begin at SCC Soon

 Through the Continuing Education Career Development division, Sandhills Community College offers classes to classes to help individuals to do their very best at a job interview, strengthen soft skills, and more. These classes are offered at a minimal cost of $75, but the fee is waived for qualified students.

Students can match current skills with an existing job or develop a training plan to learn new skills, explore career opportunities, and develop a written plan of action in “Revamp Your Career.” They will create or update their résumé, customizing it for different jobs. Students will also learn to sell themselves and stand out from other applicants in an interview. Participants will learn to deal with the stress of long-term unemployment and how to use age as an asset in their job search.

“Revamp Your Career” offers various monthly classes that are carried out online. Online classes are very similar to a traditional class, only taken from your home (or wherever your computer, tablet, or phone is located.) Most sessions are presented live. Students can interact in real-time with the instructor and fellow classmates through the camera, microphone, or typing in a chat window. They may be asked to submit assignments or projects through email.

Revamp your Career classes will be held on Thursdays beginning at 9 a.m. “Tips for Mature Job Seekers, will be held on March 3, and May 5, “Resumes and Cover Letters” on March 17, Budgeting 101: Smart Money Decisions,” on March 31,  “Workplace Attitudes and Behaviors” on April 14, “Workplace Computer Literacy” on Feb. 10,  and April 21, and “Ace the Job Interview” will be held on Feb. 17 and April 28. In “Employability Skills Academy,” students will gain their competitive edge, learn the secret to unlock workplace communication, and be more effective in the workplace and get noticed by their employer.

Registration

Seats are still available for these classes. To register, call Continuing Education at (910) 695-3980 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. All major credit cards are accepted. Pre-register at sandhills.edu/cereg. Pre-registrations must be made two days before class starts.

Summer Semester

A summer semester SCC flightPath publication will be mailed to all Moore and Hoke County homes in early May and posted to the college’s website. It will contain information about all Continuing Education classes set to begin in May, June, and July and information about all our college majors.

Summer Semester sessions A and B begin on May 24 and session C begins on June 28 for curriculum/college credit classes and Continuing Education classes begin on various dates throughout the summer.

Summer semester curriculum classes are open to current, returning, and new students. Local students attending colleges outside of the area are welcome to take courses this summer at SCC. Credits can transfer back to the university, saving students time and money. New students can apply online, and an advisor will assist in registering for classes. Current or returning students may register using Self-Service or by meeting with their Advisor.

Moore and Hoke high school graduates who successfully complete the required number of Sandhills Promise credits when in high school are eligible to have their SCC tuition paid for two years upon high school graduation. For students who plan to attend college out of the area, they are encouraged to take at least one SCC fall semester class immediately following graduation to lock in their eligibility. Many students take one or two classes each semester and transfer the credits back to their university. Classes are at no cost and can be online, hybrid, or in traditional classroom formats.

CCP Classes for High School Students

Local high school students can take classes at SCC when a junior and senior. Those successfully completing four CCP classes qualify for the Sandhills Promise.
