University Studies Teacher Preparation Transfer Degrees

Becoming a teacher to either elementary, middle, or high school students is one of the noblest of all professions. It can be satisfying and challenging, as you impact young people’s lives and futures. Teachers contribute significantly to society and make a real difference in their communities.

Sandhills Community College offers an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) and an Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation (ASTP). Both degrees consist of college transfer courses taught by professors with at least a master’s degree. It requires 60 semester hours of credit and allows you to transfer as a junior into a school of education, at a major NC university.

Community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with a junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions.

Articulation Agreements with NC Schools and Universities

With this transferable degree, you can save tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, fees, housing, meals, transportation, and parking costs.

Many of the classes in these two programs are available to high school juniors and seniors through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program. If you successfully complete four CCP classes as a high school junior and/or senior, you can attend SCC for two years at no cost through the Sandhills Promise.
