| Transfer Agreements with Independent Colleges |
The following independent colleges and universities endorse the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transfer of the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Articulation Agreements:
- Barton College is a private liberal arts college located in Wilson, North Carolina. Barton is part of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, The NC Association of Colleges and Universities; the NC Department of Public Instruction; the NC Board of Nursing; and the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Barton College was founded in 1902 by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) under the former name of Atlantic Christian College.
- Belmont Abbey College. Since 1876, the mission of Belmont Abbey College is the education of students from diverse religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds in the liberal arts tradition as guided by our catholic intellectual heritage and inspired by the 1500-year-old Benedictine monastic tradition. Belmont Abbey College celebrates excellence and virtue steeped in its 129-year Catholic Benedictine heritage. The liberal arts College is home to students from over 34 states and 26 countries and welcomes everyone from any background or tradition committed to this vision of excellence and virtue. The campus consists of the College, the Monastery and the Abbey Basilica, which can be found on its sprawling 650 acres of picturesque landscape.
- Bennett College, founded in 1873 in Greensboro, is a small, private, historically Black liberal arts college for women. The College offers women an education conducive to excellence in scholarly pursuits; preparation for leadership roles in the workplace, society, and the world; and life-long learning in a technologically advanced, complex global society. As a United Methodist Church-related institution, Bennett College promotes morally grounded maturation, intellectual honesty, purposeful public service, and responsible civic action.
- Brevard College is a baccalaureate, residential, United Methodist-affiliated institution that personally engages and educates students in the theoretical and applied liberal arts. Brevard "challenge[s] students to integrate knowledge and practical experience so that they become competent, confident, and responsible citizens, serving their local and global communities. The college currently grants the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Music degree. Current enrollment is about 700 students. Brevard is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in close vicinity to the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway, which both serve as important resources for many of the school's programs relating to art, ecology, environmental issues, and wilderness leadership.
- Campbell University is a university of the liberal arts, sciences, and professions which is committed to helping students develop an integrated Christian personality characterized by a wholeness of body, mind and spirit that includes a method of critical judgment; an appreciation of the intellectual, cultural, and religious heritage; stewardship of the body; and a sensitive awareness of the world and society in which they live and work with persons. Campbell University is a Baptist university affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
- Catawba College was founded in Newton, North Carolina, in 1851 by the German Reformed Church. The College — which is today affiliated with the United Church of Christ — moved to its present location in Salisbury in 1925. The College endeavors to attract students both nationally and internationally of good ability and character. A private, coeducational institution, Catawba offers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Education degrees to traditional and non-traditional students. The College also serves the public through educational outreach and volunteer service programs for the world community.
- Chowan University is a Christian educational institution founded in 1848 by Baptist families and named to honor the Native American Algonquin Chowanook tribe, "people of the south." Its mission is to provide a caring environment characterized by Christian values and intellectual freedom in which students can gain the knowledge, skills, creativity, and ethical values they need to flourish in a rapidly changing, culturally diverse global society. The university is located in Murfreesboro, in northeastern North Carolina between Roanoke Rapids and Elizabeth City, just south of the Virginia state line and a short drive from the Outer Banks and Virginia Beach.
- Gardner-Webb University began as a boarding high school and later became a junior college. Today Gardner-Webb is a thriving regional university with growing master’s and doctoral programs. From a movement initiated by the Kings Mountain Baptist Association in 1903, and later joined by the Sandy Run Baptist Association, the Boiling Springs High School was chartered on December 2, 1905, as an institution “where the young…could have the best possible educational advantages under distinctive Christian influence.” This close relationship of the institution to the area churches continues today.
- Johnson C. Smith University wasounded in 1867 under the auspices of the Committee on Freedmen of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) is an independent, private, coeducational institution of higher learning. Located in the rapidly growing metropolis of Charlotte, North Carolina, this historically African-American university has a residential campus with a familiar atmosphere in which students are stimulated and nurtured by dedicated and caring faculty and staff. The university enrolls approximately 1,500 students and confers bachelor’s degrees to hundreds of students each year in 32 different majors. Each student receives an IBM laptop computer equipped with the latest software and wireless capabilities. The university’s service learning component, which combines academics and community service, has become a national model to other higher education institutions. Extensive career development opportunities abound through co-op programs and internships with more than 90 companies.
- Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary were originally founded as Zion Wesley Institute by a group of A.M.E. Zion ministers for the purpose of training ministers in the Cabarrus County town of Concord, North Carolina in 1879.
- Louisburg College, a two-year residential college, prepares students for transfer to a four-year school offering baccalaureate degrees. Louisburg had its beginning in the period that witnessed the emergence of America as an independent nation, the birth of the Methodist Church in America, and the establishment of Franklin County, North Carolina, and the town of Louisburg. Having evolved from three earlier institutions, Franklin Male Academy, Louisburg Female Academy, and Louisburg Female College, Louisburg College is the oldest chartered two-year, church-related, co-educational college in the nation.
- Mars Hill College is a Baptist affiliated and accredited four-year college in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Chartered in 1859, the college provides a broad liberal arts education and a commitment to education in a Christian context.
- Montreat College. Established in 1916, Montreat College is a private, Christian college located in a beautiful valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Montreat College offers a variety of degree opportunities ranging from outdoor education to music, from computer information systems to environmental studies. All of Montreat's academic programs are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
- Mount Olive College is located on a 138-acre campus in Mount Olive, North Carolina, 60 miles east of Raleigh and 75 miles west of Wilmington.Mount Olive College was founded in 1951 by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists with a mission to serve deserving students. A private, co-educational, liberal arts institution, Mount Olive offers over 40 majors and 20 minors for recent high school graduates and college transfers.
- North Carolina Wesleyan College is a four-year coeducational, liberal arts college, with a number of preprofessional programs, founded in 1956. It is related to the United Methodist Church.
- Peace College has been dedicated to educating women since its founding in 1857. Our faculty members use their research and scholarly pursuits to enrich classroom experiences, but helping students learn is their #1 priority. All classes are taught by faculty members, not graduate assistants, and the student to faculty ratio is 13:1. Our solid academic programs offer students a broad range of choices. Work with a faculty advisor to customize your own four-year or two-year degree program. Peace students may also take classes at other schools in Raleigh through a cooperating colleges partnership.
- Pfeiffer University first opened its doors in 1885 as a mission school founded to provide an education to students who had few opportunities for formal learning. Pfeiffer has made affordability one of its highest priorities and works with students to address financial limitations. Over 90 percent of Pfeiffer’s students receive some form of financial assistance. Pfeiffer’s emphasis for the 2006-2007 academic year continues to be servant leadership. The three areas through which the University seeks to provide personal growth and academic knowledge for its students are Christian service, service or engaged learning, and co-curricular development. Pfeiffer’s Bonner Leaders program, through which students receive educational scholarships based on hours of community service, is the largest in the country. Students participate in a variety of community service projects throughout the year, including tutoring and mentoring at area schools, building Habitat for Humanity homes, volunteering at area nursing homes, and providing service to any number of local non-profit agencies. Many students also participate in alternative fall and spring break mission trips, from Honduras to hurricane-ravaged Mississippi.
- Queens University of Charlotte, private and Presbyterian, educates students for noble lives, productive careers, and responsible citizenship, all within a changing global community. Queens seeks national preeminence as a student-centered university that enhances the traditional liberal arts with career preparation to provide an education that is both intellectually challenging and practical.
- St. Andrews Presbyterian College is a private, 4-year liberal arts college in North Carolina, offering an outstanding education for students from 40 states and 30 countries. The student-faculty ratio is low, 12:1, resulting in small classes and a personalized education with emphasis on internships and study-abroad opportunities. The campus is located in the quiet, peaceful and safe Sandhills of North Carolina, less than two hours from resort beaches and major metropolitan centers. St. Andrews also offers degrees for Moore County residents on the campus of Sandhills Community College.
- Saint Augustine's College was founded in 1867 in Raleigh, North Carolina by prominent Episcopal clergy for the education of freed slaves. Over the years, it has become one of the country's most highly respected private, accredited, historically black, coeducational institutions of higher learning.
- Shaw University, founded in 1865, is the first historically black college of the South. Shaw is a private, co-educational, liberal arts university affiliated with the Baptist Church. The University awards degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Warren Wilson College. What kind of college has no football, no fraternities or sororities, and believes that one person can change the world? Warren Wilson College believes it. From environmental awards to academic rankings, Warren Wilson College is noted for its unique Triad of work, service, and academic offerings.
- Wingate University. Founded in 1896, Wingate University in in Wingate, North Carolina, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution offering 35 undergraduate majors in arts and sciences, business, education, fine arts, music and sport sciences. Students also can earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or pursue pre-professional programs in pharmacy, veterinary science, medicine, law, ministry and more.
