Paying For College

What options do I have for paying my tuition and other fees?

  • Sandhills accepts cash, checks, money orders, credit cards (we do not accept American Express), and debit cards.
  • We offer in-person payment on Mondays - Thursdays from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • A drop Box, located outside the business office, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • You may also mail your payment.
  • Another option allows you to pay by accessing the web.  Sandhills Community College uses a secure program, FACTS, to allow students to pay either by a payment plan (using installments) or to pay in full via the Sandhills Community College website (www.sandhills.edu).  Follow the link to e-cashier.  If you pay by installments, there is a processing fee of $25 per semester, or if you pay in full, the fee is $2.50 per semester.

What about Financial Aid?

  • All students who wish to be considered for federal and state financial aid and need-based scholarships must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1 of each year for the upcoming academic year.
  • Loans:  The FAFSA process must be complete before applying for any loan at Sandhills Community College.  Information about Stafford Loans, Plus Loans, and Alternative Education Loans and Sandhills Community College’s policies on these programs are available from the Loan Coordinator.  Students should apply as early as possible to have loans in place to cover educational cost.

  • Follow the link to the financial aid web page for more information about all the available options.

Are there any tax benefits?

  • In addition to federal assistance available, the North Carolina General Assembly provides a generous financial aid fund for community college students.  Need-based grants are available to full and part-time students.
  • Students with qualifying income levels can also take advantage of federal tax incentives to make attending a North Carolina community college even more financially attainable.  The Hope Scholarship and Lifetime Learning Tax Credits are available to community college students.
