| All students applying for a program at Sandhills, unless determined to be exempt, are required to take the Accuplacer, a series of un-timed, computerized tests. Testing time will vary based upon student ability and experience in reading comprehension, sentence skills, arithmetic, elementary algebra, and college level mathematics. These tests are designed to help you identify your present strengths and build a solid plan for success.
| PLACEMENT TESTING PROCEDURE - College Application: Complete the SCC Application for Admission .
- Placement Testing Ticket: You will receive a "Placement Testing Ticket" with your acceptance letter. When you are ready to test, bring the testing ticket, a picture ID and the placement testing fee of $7.00 to the SCC campus or the Hoke Center.
- Required Photo ID: Please bring a photo identification to the Learning Resource Center or Hoke Center when you arrive for placement testing.
- Testing Fee: If testing M - F, 7:45 am - 5:00 pm, please pay at the Business office in Stone Hall before testing in the Learning Resource Center in 102 Boyd Library. For all other testing hours, pay your fee at the Learning Resource Center.
- Disability Services: If you need disability accommodations, please contact Disability Services at SCC , 910-695-3707, immediately after you apply so proper accommodations can be arranged. This should be done prior to taking the placement test.
- Test Results: Test results are not available for interpretation after 7:00 pm Monday through Thursday or on Saturday. Please call the testing office at 910-695-3733 to schedule a review of test results. Test results cannot be given by telephone.
- Transferred Scores: Please send test scores from other schools directly from your previous school to Julie Roddenberry, Testing Specialist/Advising Associate, 118 Stone Hall , Sandhills Community College, 3395 Airport Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
- Other Test Scores: Sandhills accepts ASSET, COMPASS or ACCUPLACER scores from tests taken within the last five years. Please view the SCC Placement Scores for placement scores required for English, mathematics, and reading courses.
- Possible Test Exemptions:
- Students who have attended another college and have credits to transfer via an official transcript.
- Students who have taken the SAT or ACT test within five years and have appropriate scores as shown below. You must have an official copy sent to the Testing Office to be exempted.

The Department of Mathematics strongly encourages all students to complete the practice tests at Math.com before attempting a math placement test or re-test. Students can choose practice tests in a variety of subject and skill levels. Test-taking and study tips and tutorials with sample problems and solutions are also available. - Accuplacer Study Guide
