Student Accident Insurance

The Student Accident Insurance, paid by the college using student activity funds, provides coverage to all registered and enrolled curriculum students for covered injuries sustained while the insured student is:

• Participating in classes and activities sponsored or supervised by the school
• Traveling during such activities as a member of a group in transportation furnished or arranged by the school
• Traveling directly to or from the insured's home premises and the site of such activities (Sandhills Community College is considered the "home premises")

Information concerning effective/termination dates, definitions, accidental death, and specific loss benefits, accident medical expense benefits, exclusions, and payment of claims, may be found in the North Carolina Community and Technical Colleges Student Accident Insurance brochure which is available in the Student Services Office.

Student Health Insurance

The North Carolina Community College Student Health Plan Now Available to Sandhills Community College Students.

Sandhills Community College is pleased that students have an opportunity to purchase health insurance coverage through a group plan designed for community college students and their families. The North Carolina Community College Student Health Plan is offered by CIGNA HealthCare (a subsidiary of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company). CIGNA is responsible for the plan underwriting and administration services.

All students taking four or more credit hours in a semester are eligible for the plan, and the premium is the same regardless of age, gender, or place of residence in North Carolina. The enrollment window is from July 15 until September 15. North Carolina Community College Student Health Plan, Inc. is a subsidiary of Open Asset Management Co. and is responsible for enrollment, eligibility verification, and premium collection for the plan.

It is important to note that Sandhills Community College does not specifically endorse this plan or this provider. The plan is a voluntary option for our students. Interested students should contact CIGNA directly to enroll or compare with other plans available.
