Civil Engineering Technology
Careers in Civil Engineering Technology
Civil engineering technicians carry out planning and supervisory tasks in the construction of transportation systems, residential and commercial buildings, bridges, dams, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
Graduates should qualify for technician-level jobs with both public and private engineering, construction, and surveying agencies.
Employment Prospects
Civil engineering technicians are expected to have 10 percent employment growth between 2006 and 2016.
Spurred by population growth and the related need to improve the nation’s infrastructure, more civil engineering technicians will be needed to expand transportation, water supply, and pollution control systems, as well as large buildings and building complexes. They also will be needed to repair or replace existing roads, bridges, and other public structures.
Our Programs
Our Civil Engineering Technology curriculum provides the application of relevant theory of engineering needed by technicians to carry out planning and supervisory tasks in the construction of transportation systems, residential and commercial buildings, bridges, dams, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
Course work includes the communication and computational skills required to support the fields such as materials testing, structures, estimating, project management, hydraulics, environmental technology, and surveying. Additional course work will cover the operation of computers and application software including computer-aided drafting.
